Students Oppose California Storage Proposal
In a Laguna Beach Planning Commission meeting this week, local developer Doug Simpson proposed the construction of a 630-unit storage facility adjacent to the Laguna College of Art + Design campus. Many students and residents alike opposed the project.
Concerns were raised regarding safety and traffic, particularly as the storage facility would share a driveway with the LCAD campus. The property in question would also neighbor a habitat restoration area, so environmental concerns were also raised. Finally, many area residents were opposed to the size of the project. Other buildings in the area are much smaller, and the large storage facility would look out of place in the scenic neighborhood.
