1. Battles were fought here

Both literal and figurative, battles were waged and won in Greensboro for the betterment of our country. The first of which dates back to the Revolutionary War with the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, both the largest battle in the southern campaign as well as turning point for the revolutionists. The city even got its town from General Nathanael Greene.

The other historic battle wasn’t fought with guns, but it was no less revolutionary, as the AT&T four staged a nonviolent protest with a sit-in at Woolworth’s lunch counter, sparking the civil rights movement. The diner can now be visited as the home of the International Civil Rights Center & Museum.

2. The Gate City looks more like an art show than a war zone now

Due to projects such as the Greensboro Mural Project or the partnership between Wrangler and Cone Denim, you can see arts almost everywhere. From the giant public displays that show history and make the city beautiful to the fun denim statues that celebrate the city’s history with textiles.
