U-Stor-It to Open Tallest Chicago Self Storage Facility in South Loop

Chicagoans in the South Loop who need self storage will soon find an answer to their storage woes. U-Stor-It, an Illinois-based self storage company, has plans to open its third Chicago location in the heart of the South Loop next year. It’s a storage facility that will also break records among the Chicago self storage industry.

The 21-story redevelopment, located on Wabash Avenue and East Harrison Street, has taken over a former parking garage and neighboring Travelodge Hotel to become the tallest self storage facility in the city of Chicago, which makes it one of the tallest storage facilities in the country as well.

U-Stor-It Storage of South Loop’s height won’t be the only positive, though. The facility will contain more than 1,000 storage units, which should be a major draw for local apartment and condo renters. Since the monthly rent for a one-bedroom apartment in the South Loop area averages around $1,850 (and jumps up to $2,350 for a two-bedroom), renters looking to get more space at home may find the facility’s storage units to be a more affordable option compared to upgrading to a larger pad. And the downtown location makes storage all the more convenient.

The South Loop location will also offer state-of-the-art wine storage and climate-controlled storage for tenants with more specialized storage needs. As for facility amenities, U-Stor-It will have extended access hours (6 a.m. to 10 p.m.) online bill pay, covered parking, 24-hour digital surveillance, secure storage units, elevator access, moving and packing supplies, and a customer-help call center.

U-Stor-It is looking to improve the scenery of the South Loop area by adding a mural to the building’s western side as well. The company is in discussion with a distinguished art muralist to commission the project, which will continue the Columbia College’s Wabash Arts Corridor (Learn more about the Wabash Arts Corridor).

U-Stor-It Storage of South Loop is expected to open on January 31, 2016.
