Westy Self Storage Helps Swim Across America Fight Against Cancer

For the seventh year in a row, Westy Self Storage in Stamford, Conn., is making a splash with Swim Across America (SAA). SAA volunteers and swimmers in Southwest Connecticut continue to lead the fundraising charge for cancer research, prevention, and treatment with the Greenwich-Stamford 10th Anniversary Open Water Swim to Fight Cancer on June 25, 2016. Although it’s one of several sponsors, the Stamford Daily Voice reports Westy has a big role to play.

With an event that raised more than 350,000 in 2015 and has brought in $3 million to date, a lot of parts are required to put it together. To help transport all of the items needed to make the fundraiser a success, Westy donates a moving truck.

“We are very proud to again support Swim Across America,” Joe Schweyer, the District Director of Westy Self Storage’s Stamford location, told the Stamford Daily Voice. “Their dedication and drive is exemplary.”

Each year, hundreds of volunteers gather at SAA swims across the nation to fight cancer. At a fundraiser like the Greenwich-Stamford Swim, participants can choose to swim a half mile, one-and-a-half miles, or three miles. People of all ages and skill levels (even Olympians) jump in and cheer each other on. It’s a big endeavor, but the community comes together for the good cause.

“During the past seven years, Westy Self Storage has been an invaluable partner for Swim Across America’s Greenwich-Stamford Swim. Thank you, Westy, for helping us make waves to fight cancer,” said Lorrie Lorenz, Co-Chair of the Swim Across America Greenwich-Stamford Swim.

The $350,000 that the Greenwich-Stamford Swim raised in 2015 went to the Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy. The goal for the same charity in 2016 is to raise $400,000.

Westy, other sponsors, and volunteers are rallying everyone to come out to the event at 96 Cummings Point Rd. in Stamford. Volunteers can also help out on boats, kayaks, and on land.

Westy offers self storage and moving solutions in the northeastern U.S. with four locations in Connecticut, seven in New York, and four in New Jersey.
