5 Reasons You Should Move to Clearwater

Last Updated on March 11, 2024

Located on the barrier island between the Gulf of Mexico and Tampa Bay sits the wonderful city of Clearwater. Known widely for its amazing beaches, ideal weather, and all together sunny way of life, Clearwater can make an ideal place to live, work, and play.

If you’re looking to make a move, here are five reasons to move to Clearwater.

1. Affordable living in Clearwater

You can’t mention any Florida city or town without mentioning the state’s no income tax policy, which is a favorable pull for anyone who’s relocating. However, Clearwater also offers a great all around cost of living as well. According to BestPlaces.net, overall the city is more affordable than both Florida and the United States, and you’ll see significant savings in terms of housing, with the median home cost more than $20,000 cheaper than national and state averages.

While savings can be found in home purchases, it is worth noting that apartment rentals are slightly more than the Tampa metro’s, Florida’s, and the national averages. For instance, a studio apartment is roughly $40-$80 more each month.

2. Clearwater is set for economic growth

While Clearwater has long relied on the tourism industry, the city has been making moves to stretch beyond into other areas of the economy. For instance, the city of Clearwater has been making progress on its US 19 Corridor Redevelopment Plan, which addresses its most well traversed highways through town.

The plan involves creating corporate and industrial spaces in its redevelopment, inevitably attracting tourists and locals alike to stop along this section of highway. The city’s hope is that such redevelopment and attraction will also increase wages and a demand for housing in the area.

3. You can’t beat the Clearwater Beach

Running along the western border of the town sits Clearwater Beach. Its soft white sand offers residents and travelers alike a place to enjoy the sun and water with jet-skiing, parasailing, and more on the calm water as well as the beachfront promenade and its chance to bike, run, or rollerblade between numerous restaurants and cafes.

Every coastal city can claim their beach is the best, but Clearwater Beach was named TripAdvisor’s Best Beach in 2019, which is the third time in the past five years Clearwater Beach was named the best. So, Clearwater Beach may really be the best around.

4. Clearwater weather

On top of the previously mentioned five-star beach within walking distance, Clearwater gives you the weather to enjoy it. Throughout the year you’ll have high temperatures between 71 and 90, with lows rarely deeping below low 50s. It’s not surprising to hit the beach for New Years even. That being said, Florida is often hit by hurricanes. As the saying goes, when it rains, it pours.

5. Pier 60 has something for everyone

Whether you need a night out with your significant other or are looking for something for the whole family, Clearwater’s Pier 60. This 1,080-foot fishing pier includes a recreational park, bait house, telescopes, and even covers pavillions.

While you can catch some amazing sunsets almost daily on top of its everyday offerings, Pier 60 also offers special events throughout the year that nearly everyone loves, from the Sugar Sand Festival and its incredibly sand sculptures to the Sunset Cinema, which has offered free outdoor movies nearly every weekend for more than a decade.
