Located north of Houston, just east of Spring and The Woodlands, is Humble, TX. The city, which was originally an oil boomtown, offers proximity to the Houston metro, a great cost of living, and more.

1. A Houston community of communities
Within a 20 minute drive of downtown Houston, Humble offers its residents the amenities of being near a big city but with its own quaint town life. The city of Humble itself is home to a number of smaller communities.
For instance, Fall Creek is an idyllic area with beautiful parks and trails to enjoy while Eagle Springs offers residents a growing community with access to the nearby Atascocita shopping mall.
2. Find a job in Humble Oil
The city itself became a boomtown for the oil industry in the early 1900s when oil was first discovered there. Exxon found its root in the city as well, coming from Humble Oil first found in the city.
While the oil industry is not nearly as “booming” as it was back then, Shell Oil still has a presence there. Other industries have risen as well, with Humble biggest employers including MD Anderson Cancer Center, Deloitte professional services, and even NASA has a presence in Humble.
3. Enjoy the Humble weather
There’s no getting SAD in Humble. Though it does get on average about 50 inches of rain, city experiences more than 200 days of sunshine throughout the year. Given its southern location and proximity to the water, this means relatively warm weather each and every season.
That being said, Humble is susceptible to hurricanes, which are certainly something to take seriously.
4. Humble is set for exponential growth
In a 2019 city council meeting, it was said that the city of Humble is set to see some explosive growth. Mark Mitchell, president of the Lake Houston Economic Development Partnership, said that between 1980 to 2023, “it is projected that the Humble population is set to increase five-fold in terms of the general population.”
Mitchell admitted in the same meeting that the city is actively looking for ways to attract and bring in ore of the millennial generation.
5. Cost of Living is great in Humble
Speaking of Millennials, according to BestPlaces.net, the cost of living is great in Humble, which is always a big pull. You’ll find significant savings in areas like groceries and health costs, but the biggest savings you’ll find is in housing.
While rent is comparable to both local, state, and even national averages, the median home cost in Humble is only $162,500, nearly $69,000 less than the national average.
