Why should you move to Huntsville, AL?

Once a sleepy little town in northern Alabama, Huntsville literally rocketed on to the scene in the 60s and hasn’t stopped growing since. So why should you join in and move to the Rocket City?

Here are six reasons you should live in Huntsville

1. Huntsville is among the best out there

Why not start big? In case our first space pun wasn’t enough, you should know that Huntsville has its place among the stars both in the state of Alabama and the United States as a whole. U.S. News has Huntsville ranked in the top 15 best cities to live in, and it holds the No. 1 spot for cities in Alabama, and for good reason…

2.  There’s good paying jobs in Huntsville

One of the reasons Huntsville ranks so high is due to its jobs. Ever since NASA set up a center in the city in the 1960s, aerospace and defense has been the biggest industry around with the Marshall Space Flight Center and the U.S. Army’s Redstone Arsenal being two of the biggest employers around. Techs so big, Trulia even ranked it as the best new tech hub.

In 2019, the city had an unemployment of 2.6%, and the average annual salary was nearly $3,000 more than the national average.

3. And people are smart in Huntsville

Another reason Huntsville is among the best is that it’s people are just plain smart. WalletHub has the city among the top 30 most educated cities. And education is another key sector of the city’s economy with Huntsville City Schools, Madison County Schools, Alabama A&M University and the University of Alabama in Huntsville employing large numbers of the population.

And it’s worth mentioning that the smarts start young. Thirteen of the area’s high schools are recognized on the U.S. News & World Report’s Best High Schools.

4. You can live in Huntsville and visit everywhere else

In northern Alabama, you’re close to a lot of other cities, with Nashville or Birmingham being less than two hours away and only about 3 hours to Atlanta, memphis, or Knoxville, day trips or weekend getaways are completely doable.

Oh, and those weekend trips? They can also be taken to the beach—the coast is less than 6 hours away.

5. Enjoy Huntsville cuisine

Any good southern city will have some fine southern cuisine, but you can enjoy so much more. Locals love hotspots such as Stone Age Korean Steakhouse or some seafood at Char Restaurant. And if you do want some comfort food, you gotta try out Melt.

6. Cost of living in Huntsville is worth it alone

We kinda saved the best for last, but Huntsville’s value alone is worth moving to the city. IN face, U.S. News ranks it as the most affordable place to live in the U.S. The median home price is less than $180,000, and median monthly rent is just barely over $800. You’ll also save money on transportation, as the average commute time is only a little more than 20 minutes.
