One of the reasons Huntsville ranks so high is due to its jobs. Ever since NASA set up a center in the city in the 1960s, aerospace and defense has been the biggest industry around with the Marshall Space Flight Center and the U.S. Army’s Redstone Arsenal being two of the biggest employers around. In 2019, the city had an unemployment of 2.6%, and the average annual salary was nearly $3,000 more than the national average.

And education is another key sector of the city’s economy with Huntsville City Schools, Madison County Schools, Alabama A&M University and the University of Alabama in Huntsville employing large numbers of the population.

4. You can live in Huntsville and visit everywhere else
In northern Alabama, you’re close to a lot of other cities, with Nashville or Birmingham being less than two hours away and only about 3 hours to Atlanta, memphis, or Knoxville, day trips or weekend getaways are completely doable.
Oh, and those weekend trips? They can also be taken to the beach—the coast is less than 6 hours away.
5. Enjoy Huntsville cuisine
