Virginia Beach has the longest pleasure beach on the planet
With the word “Beach” in its name, this point should come as little surprise. Still, Virginia Beach’s 35-miles of sandy shoreline is no joke and has earned the official title of World’s Longest Pleasure Beach by Guinness Book of Records. This shoreline is made of three beaches, which include Chesapeake Bay Beach, Sandbridge Beach, and Virginia Beach.
What’s a beach without a boardwalk?
Right along the Oceanfront, on a three-mile stretch from 2nd to 40th Street, sits the 28-feet wide Virginia Beach Boardwalk. This attraction offers separate paths for biking, rollerblading, or even just a beachside stroll. You can enjoy nightly entertainment throughout the summer at four oceanfront stages, view the nautical sculptures that lead to Atlantic Avenue, and visit King Neptune, a 24-foot, 12-ton bronze statue. Not only is this a picturesque spot for selfie-takers today, but residents and tourists have enjoyed the views for more than 120 years.

Not all of Virginia Beach has to be enjoyed on the sand, so when you want a break from the beach, check out the Town Center of Virginia Beach. Located between Pocahontas Village and North Central is the Town Center of Virginia Beach. With shopping options such as Anthropologie, Free People, or Monkee’s as well as dozens of dining options from Bravo Cucina Italiana to drinks at drinks at Twist or Sonoma Wine, you can’t go wrong. And you can always catch a show at Sandler Center, Zeiders American Dream Theater, or Funny Bone Comedy Club.
Virginia Beach has a large military presence, and with good reason
With three and a half, you read that right, military bases, it’s no surprise that there’s a large military presence in Virginia Beach. There is Naval Air Station Oceana, Dam Neck Fleet Training Center, and the U.S. Army’s Fort Story. The “half” base is actually Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, which is officially in Norfolk, but uses plenty of space in Virginia Beach. So much so that JEB is Virginia Beach’s largest employer as it is the base for the Amphibious Forces in the United States Navy’s Atlantic Fleet.
