It’s always fun to take holiday decorations out of the box and put them up, but taking them down and putting them away usually isn’t nearly as exciting. Unfortunately, now that the hustle and bustle of the holiday season is at an end, it’s time to put your holiday decorations away. But how can you store them in a way that’s not a hassle for you?
Storing holiday decorations efficiently offers great benefits. For one, your decorations will take up less space in your home. But it will also make it easier to find all of your decorations next year, as you’ll know exactly what you have and where it’s stored.
Here are some simple steps for storing holiday decorations:
- Keep track of what you have. First things first. Create an inventory of all of your holiday decorations. This will help you remember what you have.
- Pack delicately and put similar things together. Always remember to store fragile decorations at the top of the storage bin or box to help prevent damage from larger items. If possible, try to keep your ornaments’ original packaging. If you don’t have original packages, wrap ornaments in newspaper and put in a plastic bag or old shoebox. For holiday light strands, wrap them around clothes hangers to keep from tangling later. Also, keep similar items together. For example, keep all of your tree ornaments in one box, and keep garland and lights in another.
- Don’t be afraid to toss things. If you have discolored or broken decorations, get rid of them. If decorations are still in good shape but haven’t been used, donate them.
- Label your storage bins and boxes. Mark each of your storage containers describing what’s inside so you can find what you need faster next year. For even better labeling, denote which containers contain fragile decorations.
As you find yourself putting all of your holiday decorations away, it’s important to label, label, label! Knowing what you have and where it’s stored is always a time-saver. For more information on these great holiday storing tips, check out these tips.
